When pre-empting, remember why you are doing it and pay careful attention to which seat you are in. The whole point of pre-empting is to make it difficult for the player with the strong hand. This could be your partner or one of the opponents. In the first seat one of your opponents will have the strong hand 66% of the time (good odds). In the second seat your opponents will have the strong hand 50% of the time. In the third seat only your opponents can have the strong hand.
If you are going to open the bidding with marginal hands do you have a re-bid available if your partner makes any response? If not don’t open and wait to come in later.
