Hand Question 15
Bid of opps suit

I was N, opened 1C, 1S overcall, 2H from S, 2S from A; I tried 3S as I fancied NT, but partner dealt with that. Made 12 tricks. Is there a sequence that would get us there I wonder.
Bernard's Answer
In this kind of auction I would use 3S as showing heart support - you know your opponents have at least 8 spades, so South has 0 or 1. In fact I like the bid of 3S, - since your partner is likely to be short in spades, you expect your high cards to be working. If partner takes the 3S bid as forward going then South can respond with a 4C cuebid and we might make our way to 6H. Note that if both defenders keep all their diamonds you do have to pick up the diamonds at the end - although if you test clubs first, the 6-1 break should allow you to count the diamonds.
