Hand Question 27
Bidding in 4th Position

After 1C, P, P, I bid 1NT rather than double as I was concerned about a H bid from my partner. It the n went 2C from N, double from partner, P, 2S from me , P and 3S from partner, which was 2 down for a a bottom score. How should the bidding go here?
Bernard's Answer
In the protective seat when your PASS will end the auction - you can borrow a king, so 1NT would show 11-14 points. Since you are too strong for this, you might start with a double - I think North is likely then to rebid 2C and when East cannot find a bid over this, you do best to leave declarer there. In the auction you gave - I have no idea why East doubled 2C - since you bid notrumps, it should be for penalties, but his clubs are much too weak for this.
