Bidding minor suit slams

Question

I was west. We failed to even bid game but i made 13 tricks in diamonds. Bidding went 1 D, pass, 1 H, 2 clubs, 2 spades, pass,3 D, pass and I passed. What should have happened? I heard you say you were going to cover finding minor suit slams so maybe this could be an example. The final results at the 7 tables were 4d plus1, 3d plus4, 2d plus 4, 5 d, 1 s plus 1, 5 d, 1nt plus 4. So no one found it easy.

Thank you for submitting your hand question. Please see my response below: Hi Ann, The West hand is a powerful two-suiter – it has just 3 losers. Opening 1D makes sense and then rebidding 2S is strong. East gives preference to 3D and now West should rebid her spades – emphasising their length/strength. East would rebid the diamond support and that should settle the denomination. It is clear now that EW have a good diamond fit and so West can fully evaluate – with just the 3 losers, I think bidding Blackwood is sensible – when partner shows 2 aces you can go for the slam. 1D – 1H – (2C) – 2S – 3D – 3S – 4D – 4NT – 5H – 6D. the one opposition bid is in brackets.
